Reaching these stairs can be downright scary, especially if you're crossing Monterey going south from the bottom of the stairs. There's nearly zero visiblity of the fast-moving
traffic on Montery due to the combination of the curve in the street, the retaining wall, and the ivy growing on the retaining wall. Even crossing in the other direction or
crossing the upper half of Monterey doesn't feel very safe with the speed of the traffic here.
Metal railings were installed on both sides of the stairs some time in 2018.
