Macondray Lane has a short wooden stairway at Taylor Street,
but that's the least interesting part of it. At the top of the
stairs, there's a narrow stone path that opens up onto a lovely
alley surrounded by lush greenery, under a high canopy of trees.
Macondray Lane is perhaps most well-known as the inspiration
for the fictional Barbary Lane in Armistead Maupin's Tales of
the City series. The stairs at Taylor have also been used as
a filming location for the TV miniseries adaptations.
The stairs were rebuilt into a sturdier looking stairway in 2016.
