These stairs and the entire lower half of Holladay may seem mostly pointless now, as there's only a few houses on the east side of Holladay near its north end, then absolutely nothing else along the rest of the lower half of the divided section of the street. However, before the Bayshore Freeway was built, there were homes all along the east side of the divided section as well as a one block long street down to Bayshore Boulevard known as Eve Street.
