Renamed in honor of Stairway Walks in San Francisco author Adah Bakalinsky in 2012.

The stairway is along the south side of the street, while the north side has a sidewalk with no stairs. In the center of the street are gardens, which were improved at around the same time the stairs were renamed. The stairs were also beautified by replacing the surrounding concrete sidewalk with rocks.
